Tip for anybody else who decides to use the 30" versa top from all glass, and the penguin 350... they don't fit on a 29 gallon tank.

The top is about a half an inch too wide to accommodate the filter, though you can cut that down to less than a quarter of an inch if you don't use the plastic sheet that comes with it.

Only way I could get it to fit was to have the glass propped up a little bit on the front of the tank. I have yet to trim the plastic, so I'm not using that yet... *sighs*

Anybody have any clue how much a glass shop would charge to trim about half an inch off a piece of glass?

Also, I ordered the top online, and when it got here, the little handle thing was broken inside the baggy, so I had to make one... now I've got this giant knobby thing sitting on the top of it... so much for my nice shiny top... even when I buy stuff brand new I have to alter it to fix broken things :(

Anyway! My brother is coming home this weekend, so hopefully he'll bring his camera, otherwise I'll take pictures of Darmok in his new home with my really crummy camera tomorrow.

You should have sent it back, especially if the handle was broken! I know its frustrating when you have something pictured in your mind and it doesnt work out. sad.gif

Sending it back would have meant another several weeks for Darmok in the 10 gallon, and I would have had to come up with some other type of hood, which when I looked at the measurments, none of them will actually fit the penguin in there, unless I spend twice as much to get a full hood... which I don't like because they are so flimsy and such a pain to remove when you want to really clean the tank.

It is working well, and I'm satisfied with it... but I think when we set up our third tank (oh yeah, we'll have three, or possibly four :P), we may end up getting the glass cut ourselves and just using the plastic bits that you can order as replacement parts.

*trots off to post pics on the other board*
