Hi All,

Could someone who still remembers maths lessons please let me know the equasion for converting mesurements into water capacity (gallons or litres, doesn't matter which)?

I'm looking through small ad5 for a 3rd tank & all of them seem to be giving measurements rather than capacity & I can't remember for the life of me how to convert.

Thanks,
TC

I just use online convertors!

This should help you.

Most common aquarium sizes:

I unfortunately don't remember the actual formula...

I find that 38l is equal to 10 US Gallons

And because I'm a big dork...

Google has a cool built in calculator function I use all the time for simple equations and conversions.

If you go to the normal http://www.google.com page you use for search, you can just type in what you need.

To try it out, you can enter the phrase "29 gallons in liters" and it will return "29 US gallons = 109.776942 liters" instead of web page hits.

For square aquarium volume calculation, you can enter:
"10inches*10inches*10inches="
and it will return
"(10 inches) * (10 inches) * (10 inches) = 16.387064 liters"

or
"10inches*10inches*10inches in gallons"
and get back
"(10 inches) * (10 inches) * (10 inches) = 4.32900431 US gallons"

I love the google calculator, it is so easy! Particularly when you are using a browser which has a google search built into it.

Also, if you are on the fly.... this is my absolute best friend:

http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/

Google SMS.

With text messaging on your mobile phone / device, you can text google at 466453 with basic things, and google will text you back with the results. The website gives some examples such as: Weather, Definitions, Random Q&A queries, Froogle price checks, and the ultimately relevant: Google calculator

If you text 466453 with "10 Liters in Gallons", you will receive a text back of the results.

Now you, too, can feel like a boy scout.

I just had to try this, too, but this also works if you text it:

10inches*10inches*10inches=

It will give you the same results as searching google.

Hmmm... I thought the google thing was common knowledge. I guess that makes me a big dork as well. Makes sense... I use it about every day at work (I'm an engineer). I'm forever using google for crazy conversions.

Just an FYI... it's got a lot more conversion capabilities than just that. Miles to cm, pounds to newtons, etc.

I just used the calculator to confirm that I have a 44 gal, then looked at the other link, with the standard sizes. A 44 gal (dimensions 12" x 24" x 36") wasn't listed. I got the tank used, it is an All-Glass. Does this mean it is an odd size?
