Got a used tank today, it is a 29 gallon. I got a metal stand with it (the kind that hold two tanks) and it was a bit rusty, so I sanded off the rust, and put a fresh coat of rust proof paint on it. I'm going to throw another coat on it tomorrow.

Right now the tank has been scrubbed and is sitting with a bleach solution in my bath tub. Last time I got a new tank, it took forever to fill and rain it, but with the python I got for Christmas, it works so much better!

In a few hours I'm going to empty the tank and take one last scrub on it, rinse it really good and then set it on the floor in my room on a towel to dry.

Once it gets filled... I'll have 80 gallons of water in my room! *giggles and bounces*

That is wonderful! I am very happy for you and your fishes!

I love the "Ah Ha!" feeling you get when you "capture" a used tank deal. biggrin.gif

Are you going to stack your two tanks on that stand?

Yay! Congrats to you. Remember to post pics when you get it up! biggrin.gif

I wish I could, but the stand is a 30 inch stand, and my larger tank is 36 inches. I've got a 48 inch cinderblock stand that we set up earlier this week for the 36 inch tank, and it works really well. But a few years from now, I'd like to put a 20 long on the bottom of the stand. For now I'm going to throw a board on it and use it for stacking my buckets and things. Though if I ever end up with both my 10 gallon and my 29 running, I'll put the 10 on the board on the bottom.

Yes, yes, yes, I'll take pictures once I get it set up. Right now the stand is drying in my brother's room. The tank has a fake wood finish just like my other large tank.

We call my friend Courtney, "Gnat"... she actually pays attention really well tongue.gif

I'll bring the stand in here in a little bit, and set the tank up. I have to move my bed, and then vacuum the carpet where my bed used to be, as well as reorganize a my stacking plastic drawers so that they won't block the only path to and from the door... it's a whole big deal.

Plans are to move Darmok from the 10 to the 29, and then move Jalad from the 40 to keep him company. They got along decently last time they were together. That'll leave Cass and Leo in the 40 and Darmok and Jalad in the 29. I don't plan on adding any more new fish. I originally had all four in my 40, and then Darmok started being nasty towards the presumed girls, and so I had to separate him. Jalad has started doing it too, so I'm hoping what I've got are two girls and two boys, and that separating them will do the trick. I'm hoping that I won't have to change as much of the water out of each tank this way, with the stocking level not being maxed out.

*glares at tank*

I shimmed the bottom to make it level, but since it is on carpet that will end up sinking when I fill it, that doesn't help much.

Then I filled the tank, and now it is about 1/8 of an inch off from side to side. Is that too much? No matter what I do, I can't get it exactly level. If I raise the side that is low, it goes too far and I have to raise the other side, and then that goes too far... How bad is 1/8 of an inch?

Congrats on the new tank!

I have 2 new (to me) tanks. The 90g is on a metal stand. I put those round metal floor saver things under the legs. It was so unlevel that I had to put 2 of them under one leg. It's good now. But, the 75g is on a wooden stand. We did check it b-4 we filled it and thought it was level. It's not! It is barely off when you put the level on it but makes almost a half an inch difference in the water level when filled. It has been set up a few weeks now and seems fine. Sorry that's not a definative answer - just my experience.
