I never ever get tired of looking at your pond Sonny, its just breathtaking. Your fish look so happy and healthy, great job! Its nice to hear some birds chirping away since there's snow on the ground here.

Honestly Jim - I love your pond and your fish are so vibrant (and a couple of chubbies in there as well

). It's such a beautiful setup and I often wish I could do something similar and I kid you not, if I could, i'd never come inside. There's something so mentally soothing about your pond.
Now as you're in the mood for taking footage, is there any chance you can grab some vids of your trough and massive goldies? I'd love to see that

Hi Jim,I am sitting here very sleepy as I've been up for over 24 hours.I turned your video on an immediately felt the calmness of it all.The pond fish are beautiful. The colors just don't get any brighter or better. Then listening to the sounds of the birds and moving water had me ready to close my eyes....
Very very soothing and serene.A place that I too ,would never want to leave. And hey,if you have more video's and pics, well you just bring them on as I really enjoyed seeing this one.

Lovely!

Lumpy, if you want a pond enough you'll have one. Don't worry. The calico is my biggest fish and is a Shubukin that I've had for about five years. I would guess her to be between twelve and fourteen inches.

I'm a bit embarassed of my yard right now. It is looking neglected and I need to do some Spring cleanup. I'm hoping to get it spruced over the next few weeks and then I'll feel better about taking some new shots. Here are a couple of shots from last Summer that kind of give you an idea of whole pond:

Wow, a very beautiful pond you go there, Jim!

And I see that the tancho and the shubunkin aren't the only females in that pond either - there are some nice big girls in there!
Do I see elephant ears behind the pond on the first picture? I loooove those. And your yard doesn't look neglected, it looks so tropical!

Thanks for the kind comments y'all. The pond is ramping up from the Winter duldrums and I'm a bit worried. This is always a stressful time of year for the pond. The bugs are becoming active and the fish are still warming up. There's been some flashing lately and my big Shubukin is really swollen. Been doing some water changes. I hope they pull through ok. Seems like I always lose at least one fish in the Spring.

Yep, that's elephant ears. They look pretty winter-ravaged in the video. They are really starting to grow now that it's warmer. By Summer they are usually gigantic.

Here's some video of the trough from yesterday evening. The first one has a lot of glare so I took the second one from on top of the wall behind the tank.

I'm afraid the trough may be getting over-crowded. Gotta stop getting new fish.

Jim, I'm glad I came back to this post to see you've put more videos of your fish! they are just fantastic! -That redcap oranda has the hugest wen, and I just love watching your frogheads swim, they really are the most beautiful top-view fish. I hope they are settling in well to your big pond. -How do you keep birds and other predators from eating your fish? I wish I had the room for a pond like yours, -all I can keep is a ceramic bowl outside, I live in a flat and share the back-yard with the neighbours so I can't dig out a pond.

-I think you'll just have to keep posting us videos of your pond!

so lovely.

Thanks Madeleine. So far the Frogheads are doing pretty well in the new pond. I'm watching the all-red one closely as he's acting a bit sluggish. Hopefully it will pass. Predators haven't been a problem for me (knock on wood). The pond has steep sides and is fairly deep. I think it provides safety for those fish. I do keep deer netting over the horse trough all the time because those are slow-moving fish and I did see a heron perched on the overhang above that tank a year ago.

And, finally, Ryukinville is tucked away in a secluded spot. I guess I've been lucky as nothing has managed to discover it or bother its inhabitants.
Will they allow you to put some kind of container pond in your shared yard? Maybe your neighbours would enjoy it too.

-With the ceramic bowl i've got outside, it's about 40-50 gal (I think) and I've got two sarasas in it, my neighbours like it, but I think if I got too fancy, like organising filtration outside, they might not be so enthusiastic, -we don't have access to electricity outside, so my bowl doesn't have filtration, and I'd really like at least a 200-300gal pond with proper filtration and UV, there's just no room

... i think I'm going to have to wait until we outgrow this flat and move to a residency with a large backyard that we don't have to share with neighbours.. sigh
Again, I just love your ponds and your whole back yard, it's a wonderful little oasis you've created there for yourself. Just lovely.
