I used to work at the local botanical garden here (atlantic canada). There was a tiny natural pool formed where a waterfall dropped down and they had put in two gf. They left them there all winter , no heater, no food,and the poor little guys pulled through year after year. Not something I agreed with, but amazing none the less.

There is no deicer in the pond they usually make it though the winter fine I tried to remove them but it didn't work out my net broke they are ex feeder fish that are now about 8 inches long one is a very nice fish
