I found 2 more clutches!! One was surprisingly in my 20 gallon long planted tank. It was on the out of the water part of the intake tube. It looked dried out so I pulled it off and swished it around in some water. I don't think it was fertile. After all, that tank only houses one female. If I hadn't rearanged my light I would have never known it was there.

The other one is in my 46 gallon. Its in a place I would have missed it. Its on the support piece of the tank. The support thing is black so I can't see when looking down. My water is about half an inch below the black strip on the tank so I could look in and see the clutch. Ah. I popped open a few eggs on my oldest clutch and its fertile. I pulled a couple babies out and one is finally moving around after 24 hours. I have them in a small 2.5 gallon tank with sponge filter.

rofl3.gif I have egg laying machines! Chicken farmers wish they had chickens that laid this many eggs. My ivory is laying eggs...again. I think the daddy is a blue this time.

Just hatched out about 300 babies and I still have two small clutches that aren't ready yet. Most of them will be food for my bichir and the nice ones will be kept/sold to the pet store.

How do you tell the sex of a golden inca snail and how do you breed? Do you just put a male and female in the tank and hope they breed ? I have always wanted to do this. If you could please let me know that would great!

Thanks!

Females have no penis and males have a penis. Haha, just like humans. blink.gif

Anyways. All mine just live together. When they are really happy they breed. There are methods for inducing breeding though, like raising the temperature and feed lots of yummy food.

click anatomy -> then click reproduction It will have drawings of how to sex your snail. I believe you can find photos in you search around the forums on that website.

Once they laid the eggs, I wait 3 days until I was sure it had hardened up and then I removed it, placed it on a piece of styro foam and floated it in a kritter keeper covered in plastic wrap. I hatched all my babies so far, rather than waiting for them to pop out on their own. After 2 weeks or so the eggs get very thin and paper like and if you hold it under the water and gentle squeeze baby snails fall out.

Ah, I' still have one clutch that I will hatch out this Saturday. If all the eggs hatch I should have about 450 snails. rolleyes.gif

I feed the babies romane lettuce, algae covered stones, semi boiled carrots, algae waffer and goldfish flakes. They ate the left over eggs and shells once they hatched. i just droped it right in and it was gone in 2 days.

BTW- use a sponge filter or else the babies will get sucked up and die.

Looks like I already have some dark bodies and light bodies. For sure dark shells(unsure if they will striped or solid) and a couple already creme colored ivory babies. They grow like weeds! My largest is an ivory baby. About triple the size of the others. I try to get pictures soon.

I know that, but where is it located and how can we see it? This is the part I am confused about.

Lol....males have a penis on top of their head, where some humans should tongue.gif. The best way to sex them is to try to entice them out with treats of make them reach out of their shell some other way. On a male you will be able to see a penile sheath above its head, a female will just have a hole. There are some great pictures on applesnail.net to help you be able to tell better.
