Ok so I did some reasearch on Apple Snails, because I would like to get one for my Goldfish tank and possibly one for my Platy Tank. I read about their food, water temp and other such reqiurements but I was wondering how many gallons do you need per snail if any at all. My 2 goldies are in a 20gallon at the moment, and I have 4 adult platys in a 10 gallon. Im hopeing to upgrade to a 50gallon for the goldies and put the platies in the 20 some time in the near future (tax returns!!!)
Thanks is advance!
Oh yeah, are goldsnails and Apple snails the same thing? I called my LFS and the rude girl on the phone told me they did not carry apple snails but they had gold and black snails. I thought they were the same thing but correct me if im wrong.

The gold and black snails are almost undoubtedly brigs, you can check the pictures on applesnail.net to help identify the species; brigs (pomacea brigesii) are the only snails allowed by the USDA to travel interstate (with a permit). They need about 2.5 gallons each. Canas are another possibility, but they're hardly ever sold in pet stores now and need 10 gallons each.

I agree the snails are most likely brigs.

Yeah, those gold and black snails are most likely brigs, which would be good for what you want. If you decide to go with gold pay attention to the foot of the snail...if it has red specs on it then its a brig, if theres no red it might be a cana. Its unlikely that you'd find a cana but once in a while they do get mixed up with the brigs.
