i did have a goldfish that was caclio and was told it was a caclio fan tail but it didnt have the double tail and it didnt look like the other caclio's that look like the black moors i was wondering if it was a common caclio it looked just like that but caclio with the black around the eyes and i have yet to find another fish that looked like it. i dont have it anymore do to my husband being stupid and wiped the inside of the tank to get the bubbles off with a new kitchen sponge that said it had some kind of bacterial stuff on the sponge so it killed that fish and the black moor i had before so i cant send any pics

American shubunkin

The London shubunkin has short fins and tail like the common goldfish and the American Shubunkin has a long tail and fins like the comet.

Oh what a beauty! Is it yours? It might be a calico comet... anyone else knows?
fishy_time
thankyou, yes shes mine weve had her about three years now but im not sure what type she is with that tail
nick11380
Yep, thats a calico comet. AKA, American shubunkin. Shubunkin is just what they call the calico coloration of the common goldfish (London shubunkin) and comet goldfish (American shubunkin).

Your fishes tail is that of a good quaility Comet (American shubunkin). The tail of a good quality comet (American shubunkin) is greater that 3/4 of the fishes body length.

To be honest, it's not good quality. Why? It's severely bent and distorted. The length of the tail doesn't always determine the quality.

Still a very unique fish, though yeah.gif

We had a "london shubunkin" named Mimi. He lived for about 5 years and I was in hysterics when he died. He was my favorite sad.gif

Ok, I wasn't paying attention to the shape to the tail, just the length. The tail also has to have a good shape to be good quaility.

When I first started keeping fish. The pet stores sold "real" comets. When they had a goldfish tank labled comet it was common to see fish with tails almost as long as the boby. Now days it's common to see tanks labled comet with nothing but common goldfish in it. It's like the pet stores don't know what a comet is any more and the comets that are sold in pet stores don't have the long tails like they used too.

so this would be i good quality comet then yea ,sorry about the pic it was taken with mobile http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t216/sp...__Photo0DE6.jpg

It's good for what's out there now. But I've seen comets with tails much longer.

Yeah, at work our supplier doesn't even know the difference between a common and a comet...we have "sarasa comets" and "Large comets", also "common goldfish" as feeders, but what you actually get are different sizes of the same mix of fish, mostly commons with a few shorter-tailed comets, but a few rare comets with long, flowing fins. I have personally selected numerous gorgeous comets out of the feeder tank and they're turning out to be really good-looking fish!
