hey!!!
i just got a java fern and am not quite sure how to plant it
so far i have tied the roots together with string and tied that to a rock
so its floating about an inch above the rock
is that okay?
im so excited!
it doesn't look the best now, but i think itll perk up?
any suggestions on planting it?

This is how I tied my java fern to moon rock. People said the root will attach the rock after awhile. It's not happend to me yet though. Good luck w/ your plant.

I just discovered that plants that big, usually grown in a nursery, have been propagated only partly-immersed in water and will need a veeeerrrrryyyy long time to adapt to a completely underwater lifestyle. Most likely the leaves will rot after several months with no new leaves or roots growing, but then you'll notice new baby plants sprouting from the midribs of the rotting leaves, and it's these that are adapted to being underwater. These you can count on to attach on its own to a substrate like driftwood or rock.

My Java ferns took a long time to actually anchor themselves to driftwood but their leaves never rotted.

maybe because your plant had been grown in the nursery entirely underwater.
