Full Version: Can I Use A Hot Glue Gun To Adhere Plastic Plants?

Hi

Some of my plastic plants have come adrift from their 'rock' bases. Can I use hot melt (glue gun) adhesive to re-stick them? I would guess it would be OK because it dries rock hard and is odourless - but I thought I would ask here because I am sure one of you would have tried it before and know for sure whether it's OK.

Thanks smile.gif

Umm, glade air-freshners and opening your window at night to let the room air out. That's how I finally got rid of the smell in my house. Granted, it only really worked after doing a huge water change. Other than that, I have no idea. Hope you can figure out some ingenious answer though and share it with all of us.

As long as you get it completely cooled before putting it in the tank, it should be fine. However I tried that once, and with the difference in temperature between the air and the water, it cracked the glue loose and the plants fell off.

I would suggest aquarium sealant, making sure it cures entirely before using it. I haven't done it myself, but I think it would work better.

I tried it and the plants broke loose and floated.I bought aquarium sealant, and will try it next time.

I used a glue gun before with no problems. The trick is to find a spot on the surface you'll stick on that isn't perfectly flat. Curving convex surface is slightly better than a concave one. If you can find a gap you could wedge the plant in, that's ideal. Then, lay the glue on really thick and air-cool it thoroughly before putting it in water to avoid causing it to contract and unstick from the surface.

Thanks for the tips smile.gif I will try again.

I've used hot glue guns as well..But being a bit of a paranoid freak I let them dry over a 3 day period. Then I soaked them in the same temp water as my tank and watched it for a few hours. So far so good. smile.gif
