I'm so frusterated, algae is covering all the ornaments, the glass, and even my amazon sword plant! I have a 55gal, with 4 fish in it. what should I do?
Should I get more live plants to take up the Carbon Dioxide, or is there some better way to do this?
I would also like to get some sort of algae eater, so what would you all recommend?
Thnx!

I haven't had this problem personally, but i think i've read some articles here about reducung or increasing light to kill algae, depending on the type of algae it is. Try searching the forum, and seeing what you come up with. Also check out the forum topic of compatible fish, i think you'll find a list of suitable algae eaters in there. Off the top of my hea, i know that a bristlenose plec is a suitable companiopn in a goldfish tank. Good luck!

I would increase the lighting duration. It will bring green algae in and kick out brown. Green algae is good for gold fish which they see and eat everyday in nature.
If you want to have plant, you might need to consider the wattage of your lighting system. Most plants need higher wattage.
I don't know about algae eater since I don't have one.

Brown algae is actually diatoms and not a true algae. It usually occurs in low light situations. It also often occurs in the first months of a tank's life.
How old is your tank and what is the lighting on it?

Apple snails great at it. They cleared my tank of it in 2 days. My driftwood ornament was covered in it but I was to lazy to clean it and the algae was the same color as the ornament so I had left it like that for 3 months. 3 months worth of algae gone in 2 days.
