Hello,
I bought a bunch of Anacharis for my gf fry. Eggs were eaten by fungus so I have to put the plants in my goldies tank. I know they are going to eat them. But I still want to know the proper care for Anacharis. Info is conflicted now. Some say it is a low ligth plant but the others say it requires 2 wpg.
How is your experience with Anacharis?
My setting is 90 g tank with 133 watts lighting. No CO2. I will put some liquid fertilizer. Thank you.

It's gone. My gf ate the whole bunch within 3 days.

here's a useful guideline to follow:
bunch plants = ALWAYS high light requirements
rosette plants = medium light requirements (crypts and swords for example)

Hi small_ranchu, I added a bunch of anacharis to my tank on Friday and it is about halfway eaten up already as well. The good news though is that my gf seem a lot happier - much less lethargic and pooping well (there is now a ton of brown poop in the tank) whereas before they were very lethargic and often constipated. It has been very difficult to find a good food for them since peas, spirulina and many other greens make them floaty but pellets, etc seem to cause bottom sitting. I guess my question is if you think it is ok (healthy?) for them to eat so much anacharis (I am supplementing with small amounts of high protein food as well)? I don't mind them eating it since the anacharis is only 0.99 a bunch here and I do 2-3 water changes a week anyway. What do you think - is it a problem if they eat the anacharis? Thanks

I believe it is ok for them to eat plant since they eat plants(and algae) all the time. I believe they should eat some plant, worm as the way they do in nature(in the pond.) But you have to be careful when you introduce new plant to the tank. It might carry some nasty parasite with them.
Which part of the world do you live to get a bunch of anacharis for 99 cents? You are so lucky.

Thanks! They are 0.99 for a bunch at a local PetClub but they are kept in a big tank with other plants and some random fish. I would definitely not expect that these plants would be clean so I put them in a plant qt tank for at least 2 weeks with several doses each of Jungle Water Clear (dilute PP solution) and Parasite Clear to hopefully get rid of any nasties (I say hopefully since this bunch is the first I have used this way). Actually they were in the qt tank for over a month since my main tank was salted for a while. The anacharis took a hit in the qt using this treatment and I am wondering if that is why my gf ate so much of it since the leaves seem softer and more fragile than when I first bought it. It is growing back slightly but not fast enough to keep up with my hungry fish

I think I wlll buy some more and start it in the qt with the WC and PC as this bunch is almost all gone. They don't seem to eat the Wisteria or AMazon Sword though.

Good luck with your plants. In here I have to pay $5 for a bunch contains 5 stems. I think I will try Amazon Sword in the pot

Well, I just went out to buy the anacharis and the price went up to $1.29 a bunch (~6 stems). I know I can't complain but thought it might make you feel a little better
Interesting about the one anacharis I still have in the tank - my gf munched almost all of the leaves that were darker and softer (the parts that looked like they were dying from the qt treatment) but there are a few spots where there is new growth and the gf seem to be leaving these alone. Maybe they don't taste as good? Picky little gf
Good luck with the Amazon sword. My gf did not eat it but it died on its own

After I did some research on Amazon Sword, I changed my mind. Now I am researching Java Moss. I need something that requires low light and gf avoided plant.
