Hi,
I got a new tank a bit more than 2 weeks ago. I used my old filter/gravel/water, so it cycled very quickly, the ammonia went up,then nitrites, then 0 of both. I added in new fish, and then the cycle started over again, causing high ammonia and nitrites. I changed the water daily (20%-25%), now the ammonia is 0, and the nitrites are at 0.25, but the damage has been done. One of my fish has lost a scale, and another has a hole in his/her tail. I'm not sure about the scale though, since it could be because one of my fish (the one with the hole) headbutts the other one on the side sometimes...
I added melafix, two questions, should I remove the carbon from the tank, and second one, what is a good medicine for it? The hole is about 1cm in diameter, the fish's tail is about 2 inches long. It is red all along the border of the hole.
Any help is appreciated!
