Full Version: Fused Tail?

Today I learned the difficulty of photographing fish!

Unfortunately I don't have a good picture of him BUT his tail(s) are fused at the top. He has definetly got the double tail but they're connected the entire way along the top.

Is it going to hurt him in anyway/is something wrong with him or is it just the result of some wacky genetics?

Thank you : )

smile.gif No it will not hurt him! I have an Oranda with a tail like that! Its just the way they are! Nothing wrong with them!

This is a common genetic conformation. It is commonly called a "tripod" tail - a tail that is fused along the top and split at the bottom. I will not call it "poor" genetics, but in most breeds it is not selected when breeding for show fish.

A fish with a fused tail is still a fine fish - both in looks and life. I have several myself. I love them dearly. smile.gif

Yes, just another one of the wonderful variations you can find in goldfish!
