Ok, first off, here are the details:-

Tank size: 30 Gal
Ph: 7.5
Nitrites: A touch higher than wanted, but nothing to get too concerned about
All others levels ok.

Water change once a week - 50%

Two fish in the tank.

I feed my fish sinking TetraFin Gold Japan, TetraFin Gold Color, TetraFin Gold Growth. And twice a week, TetraFin Fresh Delica.

Right, now on with the question:

This is Flotsam. I've had him for about nine months. He's just a regular fantail. But I love him, and I want him to be happy.

For as long as I can remember he had a tiny kink in his tail. It didn't seem to bother him, was never inflamed or angry looking. Just a little kink. But the other day, it seemed a touch whiter than usual, and to be protruding a little. I'm wondering if it's the beginning of cotton wool disease, or something else.

I know these pics aren't brilliant, but I wonder if any of you have a clue as to whether I should be worried, and if so, what should I do? I haven't introduced any new fish or plants to this tank recently, so I'm a little concerned.

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

sad.gif I'm sorry no one has said anything about this! I looked at it a couple times and I do not know what it is! Aside from uping you water changes to get the Nitrites down to zero, which is where you need them, I do not have any advice to offer, except please try to answer as many questions in the box above. Put all your numbers for the water params

Someone with more knowledge then myself should be able to help you!

Hi Brock.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Before I get into the bump issue, I am concerned that you have any nitrites at all. It is important that we know all the levels, please post them for us.
Also how is the fish acting? What type of filtration do you have running? These to are important.

Often these little white bumps can be a virus, however I would feel more comfortable waiting on diagnosing until more information is obtained.
Post back soon.

Thanks for coming back to me. I'll try to get those test results back to you asap.
