hiya all here are a few pics of my shubs and koi i rescued I am very happy that they are doing so well so far wink.gif i dont know what kind of koi this is but its tail is kinda bent upwards like a v headscratch.gif sorry i got pic happy these guys are actually friendly they swim up to the glass like hello

blink.gif Sorry Jillian as I don't know anything about Koi myself.Maybe Andrea or Scott,etc will spot this and be able to help.I like that one that looks Black white,etc. biggrin.gif

thats my fav too devs it has the really shiny scales i like their fins too i am hoping i know nothing about these guys

oh thank you love-rabbit-fish i heartpump.gif that coloring and how fast do these guys grow lol as i'm just used to my gf growth i haven't a clue about shubunkins either my mom used to have koi but i dont talk to her as i know she would of taken the fish to her big pond in nj

shawneesgoldie thank you i'm actually happy i found them and they are happier now then they where in the bag can tell the bags had no oxygen in them but i am glad i found them as they are now apart of my fishy family

Thanks Erin this is a first for me with koi and shubs I never had anything like these before but I will learn as much as I can to do my very best to take care of them and raise them 2 be big and strong and beautiful fish

yeah, i was clueless about koi too, then when i bought these two, i start researching and researching and researching!! exactly.gif it's winter break and i spend the entire day googleling "koi care" and koi varieties.
yesterday i evenmade a powerpoint about koi varieties!!!! bingo.gif bingo.gif

i was just reading on this site here and it tells you how to get your koi to eat out of your hand I was like amazed they show the different breeds here too i want this guy
but man i can see it starting already rubber maid tubs everywhere and my lil one going oh time 2 go fishing for koi she tried to grab the koi tonight i was like yikes.gif

Jillian - I have a koi very similar to yours, except it is a "butterfly" or long fin. I got him in early November, when he was just over 5 inches long. Now he is just over 7 inches long. He is almost as long as his tank mate (Molly - calico ryukin), but not close to her in weight yet. I'm expecting to put him outside come late April/May. I hope that the tank can hold him that long. Might have to go to twice per week water changes. We will see.

By the way, mine doesn't have that V shape near the tail. Is that just in the photos or is it always like that?

Lastly, I feed mine floating pellets to get him used to feeding from the surface (and my hand).

The koi with the bent spine looks like it was born like that. Defects are common in fish and most are culled so this one seems to have got through that process.
Dont know if it will get worse as he grows but he will need at least 250 gallons if it isnt to get worse through being stunted.
Lovely fish though and wish you luck with them.
