We bought two golfish two days ago and seem to be fine until this afternoon. One of the golfish was laying on its side at the top of the golfish bowl for up to half an hour and seemed to have stop breathing, we all though it was dead and put the fish into a bag but then this evening we saw in the bag that the fish was swimming around perfectly well and placed him back into the tank along with the other fish and now seems to be fine. As this is our first fish we're not sure if it is normal for a fish to do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hi and welcometo.jpg

it is hard to diognose what the problem is unless you answere the following questions

-Problems: Test Results for the Following:
-Ammonia Level?
-Nitrite Level?
-Nitrate level?
-Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)?
-Ph Level out of the Tap?
-Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running?
-What is the name and size of the filter/s?
-How often do you change the water and how much?
-How many fish in the tank and their size?
-What kind of water additives or conditioners?
-Any medications added to the tank?
-Add any new fish to the tank?
-What do you feed your fish?
-Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt",
bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus?
-Any unusual behavior like staying
at the bottom, not eating, ect..?

what i can say is that your fish's behavior is not normal.
also you said you had it in a bowl. goldfish do not belong in bowls because they are very messy fish and if they are the fancy kind(double tail), they will get 6-8 inches and need atleast 10 gallons of water per fish. if they are common/commets (single tail, cost about 26 cents), they will get 12-14 inches and need atleast 20 gallons of water.
goldfishgrateful
I had a fish that did the same thing, I didn't learn til he was dead that it was sbd (swim bladder disorder)
I think that's what your fish may have.
But, to make sure answer those q's above smile.gif

Kal this is not normal. I am going to move your thread to the diagnosing area. Please answer all the questions in the box you see at the top. This will help us to help you and the fish.

Can you give us an update?
