As I said in my title, I have room for a new fish.
I can't decide if I should just get another goldfish, or if I should get another type of fish.
I currently have 2 commons, 1 shubunkin, and 1 moor.
If i should get a gf, what breed do you recommend?
If not, what kind of fish should I get with it?

Pearlscale goldfish always add nice contrast with their fatness. However, they say you should not keep fancy goldfish with common type goldfish, because it is hard for them to compete for food and may be bullied. Is your moor working out okay with these more able bodied goldfish?

I'd be worried about a pearlscale (especially a very round one) getting food. They might be all right if you hand-feed or do something in order to ensure they get fair portions of food.

Ya my Moor is fine, the commons and shubunkin all seem to pause from their meal so she can get some. She sometimes has trouble keeping up during their games, but overall she's doin great.

what about a commet, if you "that" much room leftover. they kinda complete the common and shubunkin gang biggrin.gif

smile.gif What size is your tank exactly? That makes all the difference on what type of fish to choose. smile.gif

I got room for about anything............I 'm narrowing it down to fancies, and small species of fish.

smile.gif Well, without you being more specific on your actual tank size/set-up,I don't feel comfortable offering any advice on new fish.I will say this though, you really shouldn't be mixing comets and Shubs with the regular Fancy goldfish. They need at least 20 gallons a piece to start with, they're made to grow long and sleek, and their swimming is fast. The Moor may be okay now,but may have problems later being in with those guys.

Suit yourself...... smile.gif

Srry, I'm just stubborn. I always thought commons needed just the same amount of room as fancies. But I recounted and I'm exactly 15 gal over the limit in my 55 gal. So, I've decided to give away my commons. And my shubunkin if she also needs 20 gal.......
I really love fancy goldfish, and I guess commons just aren't my favorite. But I will make sure i give em to someone who will take care of them.
cry3.gif This is the only way I can think so I can get room for a fancy..... plus my moor won't have to go through such a competition to get food.

thnx, I'm getting a new one today, whatever catches my eye as special. Then, I'll spend the rest of the day writing down possible owners for the commons in my area. Any one else live in southeastern south dakota??
Northwestern Iowa would work too. smile.gif

As excited as I know you are at getting a new fish,I'd advise you to wait on the urge of buying another Fancy, until you do find new homes for your Commons and Shub,as that's not always an easy task to do.
If your tank is 55 gallons, you can keep two of those fish, maybe even squeeze a third one in if you do regular water changes and maintainance on the tank, and you have sufficient filtration. If you've decided that you prefer Fancies over Commons, etc.,well that's another story.I truthfully would not keep Moors with Commons as they are at a disadvantage with their eyesight to begin with.
Believe me,I'm not trying to give you a hard time here,or lessen your enthusiasm,,but we try to not only teach good care for goldfish, but also responsibility on our part as good pet owners. If you want the Fancy Goldfish then
Your best bet is to find the fish that you allready own, nice homes, before you even consider a new fish. You may want to spend a bit of time doing a little research on your choices of fancy's and the requirements needed during this time also, just to make sure that this fish will be one that you'll be happy with in the long run.
Good luck,I hope that you work it all out. smile.gif

Thnx, I actually came up with this plan last night:
The fancy I got is in quarintine now, and will be in it for at least 2 weeks.
Plenty of time to get homes for my commons.
I found a home for Oscar my common, and am working on getting one for crimson.
That'll just leave electra my shubunkin, and ruby my orange telescope.(who stays no matter what)
That'll be a total of 30 gal, with electra and ruby. Plus Murka, the pearlscale in quarentine, makes total of 40 gal.
So I think I got it all planned out well, and if problems grow between electra and my fancies, I'll boot her out too.
