--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know i removed about 2 cups of tank water and added the salt to that and microwaved it for a few mins. stirred and let stand to room temp. but when i go to put it in , being my lil fishies they all gather around, i have tried feeding at one end and adding at the other , but no luck they watch me, i dont want them to get salt burns so how can i add this without harming my babies, but they are making this very difficult... help if you can... thanks...

ok well if the salt is dissolved i dont think it will cause a problem...maybe you could feed your fish at one end of the tank while pouring the water in at the other so that the fish would be distracted tho

My experience is that when I put aquarium salt into the water, my fish scramble to get away from it. I have never had one burned from it and believe me when I tell you, I just used a salt therapy treatment where I needed to add a lot more salt than the norm to save 3 - 4 1/2 to 5 inch Orandas. They all made it fine and are happy and healthy again. No burns. Good luck!

I tend to add salt only when I'm cleaning my tank. I clean my tank about every month and a half...I take my Teddy out of the tank and put him in a bowl until I'm done. I then clean, add the salt, etc. and then put him back. He hasn't been burned one time this way.

Stacey,
It sounds like you're doing everything right. The salt burns I talked about are when you just pour the crystals in. If you dissolve it first then you're fine. And everytime I open the lid to my tank my fish thinks its feeding time so he comes to the top. I always end up pouring the saltwater on him but he doesnt care.

Water from your tank will disolve the salt. Cold water from the tap will do it too but a little slower

You only clean your tank once every month and a half?? Is your fish healthy? JUst a suggestion: It is best to clean your tank once a week. YOu do 10% to 15% wtare changes once a week and add the chlorine killer and cycle or whatever other water conditioners you use. This helps to keep the ammonia form spiking etc..just out of curisity: what size is our tank and how many fish? I'm just nosy!!

just a question...
but what's wrong with throwing the salt directly into the tank? i've always done this, and i do it to my brackish tank (half way between freshwater & saltwater)...

If a large amount of salt hits the fish it can burn they slime coat and hurt the fish. Thats why you want to disolve the salt first

My tank is a ten gallon and I have one goldfish in it. I have a large pump running and an airstone. I treat the tank weekly for chlorine, etc. My fish seems to be happy and healthy. I am very careful about not over feeding him too. So far this has worked for me and my Teddy.
