I just purchased some java moss, it home and noticed there were a couple tiny snails living in it. What can I do to get rid of the snails. Will they hurt my tank? Will they benefit my tank at all? Thanks all.

P.S. I only added a bunch to my betta tank... 2.5gal barebottom so if there is a huge snail problem I can easily take care of it there.

They probably arent beneficial unless you like the look of them. If you are quick you can take the ones you can see out and you maaay not get anymore.. but they have probably already layed eggs.

What do they look like?

So are you wondering about adding them to your goldfish tank? (Sorry, I get confused, haha blink.gif ). I had snails come into my tropical tank on a plant. They are tiny and very numerous now, so when I find there are too many I just pick them off and toss them in my goldfish tank...they eat them! Maybe yours will do the same and you won't even need to worry about them.

I have the rest of the moss in my dwarf frog tank, the snails I picked out were small and brown, there were only 3. Anyways my frogs and betta love the moss. My betta uses it as a bed and the frogs love hiding in it and picking out bits of food that get caught in it.
