smile.gif Hi Guys

Just out of curiosity, which species is the most beneficial for cleaning up small ares of algae.
vmlola
smile.gif I can not help you, as anything I have bought to help with the algea problems in my tanks have not worked. I think they wait to eat the food I drop into the tank and do not want to clean the tank for me. I have only tried the Rubbermouth and Bristlemouth(Lip) Plecos and they have not helped!
Hidr
My BN are great. They keep my tank pretty clean. They do such a good job I have to remember to feed them 2 or 3 times a week cause there is not enough algea to keep them all feed.
Right now I have 7 in my 75g tank. Once I can see what sexes I have I well thin them down to 3 or 4.
BN do better if you have more then one.

Try Chinese Plecos , They r like a powerful vacuum cleaner~

Are you planning on putting them with goldies? Or on their own?
denniss
Siamese Algae eaters are good, and get along peaceably with goldfish. I had an albino bristlenose that was aggressive toward my goldfhsh. However, a SAE won't be able to keep up with a healthy algae crop. Mine has grown from 1.5 inches to over 4 inches in two years.

Which species won't harm my goldies?, I have 3 beautiful Orandas that have grown and have been doing so well, I'd hate to throw something in there that will harm them.

some said plecos is fine with their gf,some said they will suck on gf slime when not fed properly........ depends on the plecos agression~
Orando
I have purchased a hillstream loach sucker and boy they are real good, my tank is like new blink.gif

That is is in with my oranda, blackmoore and pearscale and they all get along fine. There pretty shy at 1st (24hrs) but now mine is out all the time. Yesturday he was in and out all day. He has a castle rock which is his cave and he pops out and plays, pretty funny actauly as he swims in fast circles around the rock cave and in and out, then sprints all over the tank. Very playful. My fish are ok with it also, sometimes they nibble him if he is lying still on bottom (camoflauged) but hes like lightening and swims off. He doesnt bother my fish at all.

Chinese algae eaters are very territorial and become quite aggressive as they get older.Mine was removed and now lives in a tank by itself as it was attacking the other tank residents despite plenty of hiding places.I would reccomend getting a bristlenose.

I can second that, my chinese became horribly agressive and annoying to my goldfish and I promptly removed him. Wouldn't suggest trying it.

There is a difference between a Chinese Algae Eater and a Siamese Algae Eater. The Chinese are known to become territorial and aggressive. The Siamese are not. The two look similar and you need to be careful to get the Siamese, not the Chinese. I searched the Internet boards and got pictures before I bought mine. He (Slim) has been great. Gets along fine with the goldfish.

I agree. If you're looking into the Algae eater's,make sure that you know which one you are getting.I had a Chinese Algae eater named Mr. Magoo, who loved chasing any fish including my Oranda's if he had the chance. The older he got, the worse he became.
I keep a ton of Bristlenose ,and I have to say that they are so spoiled with fresh veggies and such, that you don't see them looking at algae too often. rofl3.gif I do have to add that the majority of my tanks don't have algae though so it hasn't been an issue.

hey try an apple snail Theyre so cute and they slide all around they'll ge tyour algea

smile.gif Snails will take care of some algae, but algae should not be considered as their main staple for most Apple snails will eat everything else up first.
