that I brought in from the pond. I believe they are aphids. How can I get rid of them? I'm afraid to spray them with anything for fear that it will kill the fish and snails.

They make an aphid spray that is harmless to fish, you should be able to find it at most any pet store.

I had the blasted things allllllllllllllll over my water hyacinth when I brought it in. I was putting it in with fish, so I didn't want to use any chemicals. (Didn't know about the stuff Scott's talking about, wish I had!) I ended up putting the plants into a 5 gallon bucket, filled it with water to the top, and put another 5 gallon bucket with a couple bricks inside and putting that on top of the plants to push them down into the water all the way. I left it that way for 48 hours and when it was done, the stinkin' aphids were dead. There were HUNDREDS of them dead in the bottom of the bucket.

It's called 'Herbal Aphid Control'

I used it a lot around the pond and it never hurt anything.
Submerging the plants in water for 48 hours is a good idea as well.

I bought it at Petsmart. They also had it at the Nursery as well.
