Here's a link for the type of heater I use, Won Pro Heat Titanium. You'll need a 150 watt heater if not two. ( in case one dies, and to not over work a single one)

For filters I use Marineland emporers and penguins, both have the biowheel.
You'll need either 2 of the penguin 330's --660 gallons of filtration or 2 emporer
400's -- 800 gallons of filtration.

Or you could go with a canister filter, I'll let someone else give their brand.

Air pumps, check this out.

Lighting? depends on if you want plants or not. I've been using the Aqua-Glo
bulbs and can't really complain. They show my fishies really nice. Other people
have better dealings on the lighting subject though.

Definitely do order your supplies online if you're able to. It can be so much cheaper, especially if you're getting a lot of stuff and can have it shipped together.
lepperchan
i would agree with the online buying, but only if you are doing big purchases, because most times you don't get charged Tax but insted get charged shipping that can make up for the tax and then some, taking your discount and kickingit to the street...
Cheers

The links I gave are the products I use. Both the emporers and penguins.
The titanium heaters (they don't break) and I just use the whisper brand air
pumps from nnnnnn.

I use the same types of filters and heaters previously mentioned on some of my tanks. Generally it doesn't matter what brand of stuff you get, so just work within your budget. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure you have lots of filtration (a filter rated for ~double your tank size) and be sure you have plenty of biofiltration (a filter with specific biomedia or a sponge filter in addition to a power filter). I would also suggest you get a submersible heater with adequate wattage - I have several brands and don't have a strong preference of one over the other.
Lovely_Goldfish
um you absolutely should not use a heater in goldfish tanks unless theres a danger of the water freezing!

I find that my fish grow faster when the water is set to 76 degrees, and just seem healthier over all. All my tanks have Ebo Jager heaters, they are fully submersible and have a temperature gauge that's +- .5 degree correct. I don't think i'll ever use another brand again. I know people who have had the same ones for 10+ years and still working great. In my opinion they're the Eheims of heaters.

What do they on tv, "Set it and Forget It" haha smile.gif smile.gif

While I believe the ebo jaggers are great heaters I have had one that failed after only one year in use. It just would not shut off which can be extremely dangerous. After that episode I have used only visi therms and have never had a problem and they are very accurate. I have recommended the ebos in the past and still think they are a quality item but will never have that sense of security with them anymore.
lovelygoldfish made a comment that I do not agree with and I felt responsible too put an end too this myth. If the only reason you add a heater is too avoid the water freezing you are going too have many problems in the future if not right now. While it is true that certain types of goldies do not need a heater and can handle colder temps it is the fluctuations that is the problem. Remember we are trying too establish a stable environment for our fish. If your water temps are moving around 5 degrees everydayor even more, this is not good for your fish. Also most fancies do not do very well in cold water. For the cost of a heater it would be well advised too add one.
