I've managed to get some better pictures of my new betta Chester! There was some debate over his tail type and gender in the last thread, and I still haven't managed to get a good beard flare out of him though he definitely has a small one(I think he's a bit embarrassed about the size). He's always going too fast for the camera to capture it! Also, his color really darkened and is so nice! He was definitely the best $2.99 I've ever spent! Unfortunately he's still not in his permanent home as my sorority is taking a little bit longer than expected to cycle.

Woah, what a change! He does not even look like same betta...even his eyes are different. I thought he was handsome before but wow what a looker.

He does have nice spread on his caudal but it's not a HM. The edges are rounded which means he's a roundtail (AKA fantail). HM have straight edges on the caudal.
He's a very gorgeous fish! You got a great deal on him.

He looks like halfmoon to me, 170+ degrees. Not all halfmoons have clean edges and I doubt a pet store halfmoon would have sharp perfect edges. Look at the bottom of his caudal fin, it is clean but the rays are a bit short. Through careful breeding it could be bred even sharper.

BTW- That color is beautiful! Wow, I use to think green bettas were ugly but this guy has changed my opinion!

I agree with Sushi. He looks like a half moon to me as well. Still a great deal for $2.99. I wish I could get a beauty like that for $2.99

Chester thanks you guys for all the compliments! I think he's letting them go to his head though as he is always showing off now. His colors really did brighten up and I think that part of the reason I got him for so cheap was that he was so dull and would never flare so they didn't know he was a halfmoon. It's not surprising though since they had him in a little bag that was floating at the top of a tank filled with big frontosas. I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself either if that was the view outside my window!
