hello im thinking of getting a new fish on saturday.
i want a ranchu or a lionhead i think i prefare the ranchus though because of the curves dorsal contour.
I curently have two black moors an oranda two pearlscale and 12 minnows in a 75 UK gallon tank. Tahts aprox 90 US gallons (so ive been told) not worked it out yet ^^''
so yeah im just wondering if you guys think they will be okay in there all 6 are quite fast and are still under 3 inches one of the black moors is a bit agressive but the oranda sorts her out lol so i think they will be okay.
Any one have any advice for good qualities in the fish? any special precautions ill need to take, general adivce really please ^^
my amonia is zero
nitrate is 20
nitrite is zero
thanks

a ranchu or lionhead will do (or should do!) just fine with moors and orandas and pearlscales. I've never had minnows, so I don't know about those. Are the minnows big or small?
Yes, I think they'll all be okay in there. You've got 5 goldies and 12 minnows. Those minnows are throwing me off, because I don't know how much water they need, their eating habit, etc. The goldies need a minimum of 10 gallons per fish, so follow that rule and you'll be fine. Once the fish mature and become "whoppers", they will probably need more than the 10-gallon-rule.
If you're looking at ranchus, trying to find the nicest one, I look for the following: Backbone has a smooth curve down to tail, symmetrical tail, fat belly, signs of lumpy headgrowth, swift swimming motion.

thankyou for the replies

i forgot one of my fishies off eek i have a veil tail as well whoops ^^''
but i think that the water space is okay becuase (talking in US gallons) its minimum 10 gallon per fish i have 6 atm + new one 7 and then there is still 20 gallon free + when i move out to go to university in a year or two i will definatley be getting an other tank ^^ which hopefully *fingers crossed* will allow me to sex them and set up gender based tanks to prevent acidental breeding ^^
and also the minnow take up next to no room they grow to about an inch long and ive been told that they follow an inch per liter so again i think its okay ^^
and i did not know that about the ryukin thankyou for the warning:)

Huh?? Never heard of that and I'm sure ur quite wrong there.
Ryukins have a reputation to be aggressive but that's generalising. They certainly don't eat other goldies' wen

D_golem is correct. Ryukins will not eat the wen of other goldies.

O_O, I've had my Lionhead and Ryukin together since June, and I have never seen my Ryukin try that.

I'm sure you can keep a ryukin with an oranda, they may be aggressive... but not wen-eating o_o
