Full Version: Have I A Pig?

My new Betta Is quite a character, and very active when he sees people. Otherwise he swims a bit, and lays around on the big sword leafs like a Roman Emperor or something.

So I have been feeding him Hikari Betta Bio-Gold. The instructions say 2 to 4 pellets, 2 or 3 times daily. I've been feeding 3 pellets twice a day, replace one of the feedings with bloodworm, and fast one day a week.

I don't know if it's possible to over-feed a Betta, or if they will just ignore food if they are full.

But he's always ready to eat and has never left a pellet. Does that mean he's a pig - or does it mean he should get a few more pellets?

That sounds about right. If he starts to thin out, just increase the amount of pellets. Bettas will eat way more than they should if a lot of food is presented to them. That doesn't mean he's a pig...it means he's a betta! biggrin.gif

Coming from a person who has a goldfish who sticks her head completely out of the water and opens her mouth as if to suggest I feed her that very instant, I can't help you. rofl3.gif This behavior occurs every single time I walk in the room (and the room is my office so its used all day long) or near the tank repeatedly!
Devs
Don't let those little beggar eyes get to you Daniel,as your regimen sounds fine.In case anyone doesn't realize this,Betta's tummies are about the size of their eye,so it doesn't take much to fill them. If you don't presoak Betta food, whatever you're feeding,3-4 pellets will swell from the water and become quite a meal for the little guy. However, rolleyes.gif they too are alot like goldies and will beg for food til there's no tommorrow..

My Zeke is quite the eating machine. He is quite a good beggar too.Bettas can be really good moochers too but don't give in and overfeed them as Devs says. Otherwise you will get a fat betta. Twice a day the way you are feeding him sounds just right. Zeke gets fed twice a day too, although he would like it to be more

Check out his belly... it should be fairly flush with the rest of his body. If he has a big belly, fast him for a day or two and reduce the ammount of pellets you feed.

Is it weird that mine dont do that? at first they will get all excited, but once they have eaten the ammount they want, they just stop and leave the rest for me to fish out. I feed them betta flake though so maybe they dont like it much.. and I never know exactly how much I'm feeding each time.
