Hi everyone. im looking for a quick answer as I am going to the LFS tomorrow- and want to get afew critters for my tank. To eat leftovers in my moss...I have plants and moss and wood for hiding places. Last time I went I saw these red and white striped ghost shrimp lookalikes and Im think ing to get afew....what do you think- will they be okay with my fancy goldies -with lots to hide in? Thanks smile.gif
sandy
How big will they be? Its a bit iffy putting shrimp in with goldies as they may be too scared to come out.
Hopefully someone who has had experience with shrimp and goldies should be able to help.

unsure.gif Imogen, were they Marine or freshwater shrimp?Offhand,I only know of the Marine around here. Wait a minute,I do recall a sort of plain looking shrimp with something red on his head??? unsure.gif Would it be that one?I think that if it's a goldie tank, you'll have to go with the bigger Wood(aka Singapore or Bamboo) shrimp/Amano shrimp, etc.Anything smaller may be eaten. yikes.gif
Wood shrimp get about 3 inches or so,Amano around 2 inches if I'm not mistaken.

Jeesh- you all are gonna kill me peepwallA.gif Guess what I came home with???????

Two baby plecos!!! rofl3.gif

There were none of those red and white shrimps left so maybe just as well if as sandy says they are not good with goldies. Now I have a lot of studying to do on plecos as I know zilch but I intend to give them the best care and will head over to pleco forums soon -where Im sure Ill run into you Sharon and need farther advice as I know you have pleco(s) biggrin.gif .

They are " Albino golden miniature bush plecos" Expensive but I got a huge discount as I am a regular and I have a points card which was full and I used it.

They only grow to 5 cms I am told - must be similar to the siamese dolls also dwarf I have had before. They are extremely cute and racing all over the tank glass and on the wood. I have bought some pleco food but it is far to big for these babies so Im going to have to break it up....they are in the 55 now with my fancies who are ignoring them...so far so good.

Any advice greatly appreciated heartpump.gif .

smile.gif Congrats on the baby pleco's.If you have really big goldies in their tank, watch that they have alot of hidey holes and cover to hide under.Do you also have a piece of Driftwood for them as that is a main staple along with their diet. smile.gif
I have tons of these guys, but believe it or not, only one goldie tank has them in it.Goldfish are such pigs that you really have to make sure that they're getting enough food.Just an FYI,they adore cooked zuchinni/squash/Cukecumber/Mustard/Collard greens etc. Good luck and if you have any questions, just ask.
Although I do belong at the Pleco forum, between Modding here and my work schedule,I don't hardly ever post. rolleyes.gif More research than anything smile.gif

Thanks Devs sweetie heartpump.gif . Fascinating...zuchinni and squash for dinner then. I LOVE these babies. They are too impossibly adoreable and they have HUGE mouths rofl3.gif Last night they were zooming all over the place and so much fun to watch in a dim light. They seem more active at night. My younger son is totally fascinated by them...Now its daytime they are hiding under the air wall and seem calm. I will try and make sure they get to eat although I havent seen them eat yet unsure.gif

The biggest fish is my black mammy moor, she is very docile and about 4 or 5 inches. The other 3 are more like 2 to 3 inches. I've moved the 2 other pearlies into my experiment tank. (They have mild sbd and Im doing a low level water, zero nitrate, higher temp, experiment with their recovery in mind).

The place I got the plecos is a small store called "Unique fish"run by a fish breeder and shower, he is so interesting! He only gets rare fish/creatures in and he quarantines them all for 1 month first and then they go in the main store which is tiny and crammed with fascinating tanks (mickeymouse cories in green and yellow- so pretty). The main clientel is middle age men! Rarely see kids..I got my siamese dolls here years back. I also got the used show tank from him. One day when I have space I plan on ordering my dream fish from him ( a calico hamanishiki). So nice to see an owner who knows his stuff smile.gif
