How do you do it? My old one isn't working properly anymore...probably because I got it wet lol. I think I remember it saying that you could actually move it around and stuff, but I tried to remove it and it seemed like it would leave sticky stuff. Does anyone have any tips?

Use a razorblade or something similar to remove the thermometer than rubbing alcohol to get off the sticky residue.

Thanks for the tips Glitter. I had the same problem when I had one of those. It stuck like super glue. I could not get it off without tearing it up. I will have to try your tips next time

Rubbing alchohol, huh? I don't think I can use a razor blade since it is a plastic tank.

I have never had any luck removing those things without tearing them all to pieces. I have one that I think is starting to not work on me, and I dread scraping it off the tank. I like them, but I just don't know. They have always worked like a charm for me, but I think they are only good for about five years, if that long.

Hmm that poses a problem. Can you tear it off with your hands? You can get the sticky stuff off with the rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball.

I have one like that on my 10 gallon fry tank, but the one I use on my 20 gallon can be moved around. It sticks good but can come off super easy. I've moved it around many times. Rubbing alcohol will take off any sticky stuff once you pull the thing off. lol.

If you use the razor blade VERY slowly and carefully to lift the corner of the thermomitor (just so you can get a grip on it), you should be able to manage not scratching the tank. You also might try a needle or a straight pin to get under the edge as you might have more control over it. If there's no rubbing alchohol around the house you might try "Goo Gone." It's basically a citrus oil that removes gunk in a snap... my mom keeps vats of it around the house. Works well and it leaves a sweet smellin' orangy scent!

I don't see why not. I know that canola oil will get it off, too.

very good ideas everyone. The other thought I had and you would have to be extremely careful using it is to put some nail polish remover on a cloth and gently wipe it off and then rinsed the area with some water afterwards. I know the kids in the grocery stores use nail polish remover to reomove sticky price labels
