I'm going home for Thanksgiving break this tuesday. I'll be gone six days. I don't want to leave Scud without food for that long so I was wondering if I got one of those three day feeder blockers for her tank if that would work. I don't like the idea of using the blocks because of water issues but I figure if I got one that was only for three days it would get totally eaten between my fish and snails before it'll screw up my water too badly.

Does this sound at all logical or just wishful thinking?

Scud will be just fine for 6 days without food, those food blocks however can kill your fish! I'd stay away from food blocks personally. If you want to leave your fish with some food a plant in the tank that goldies like to munch, mine love hogwort will do the trick just fine.

Scud does love to eat plants but I also have three large plant eating snails (two canas and a haustrum). Plants have an average lifespan of about 12 hours in my tank....so that won't do. I'm not comfortable at all leaving my critters for six days without any food. I'm also worried about the snails. For them I'm thinking of putting a large peice of uncooked Kale in the tank. The Kale is hard and they aren't especially fond of it so they don't eat it as fast, a big piece should be good for them but Scud won't touch Kale, her tastes run more towards dandelion and spinach which the snails will sit and eat till its gone rolleyes.gif

There's no reason to be uncomfortable. Fish can go many days without food. smile.gif You could try putting in other vegetables that will take a while to eat. Have you tried something like broccoli?

i've been gone away for 2 weeks and all my fish are still going strong. i would do a water change before you leave and no feed them 2 days before you leave.
