I tried to think of a delicate way of phrasing this topic smile.gif

How long after eating should you expect to see a goldfish poop? What would be considered healthy -an hour, 6 hours, a day? I fed my gf on Mon AM, he seemed floaty so I decided to fast on Tues and did not see a poop until late Tues PM ~ 36 hours later. This seems like quite a while and I am trying to figure out what this means in terms of amounts/schedule of feeding. He has had ongoing constipation/sbd issues for awhile now.

I think it depends on the type of food the goldie is eating and possibly their size. I fed my oranda and black moor peas at about 1am this morning and I saw the first signs of green poop about 12 hours later.

Ok, thanks. I would imagine then that high protein foods might take longer than peas?

I guess I'll just have to work out the food/schedule by what is best for each fish with respect to avoiding floatiness and constipation.

Im not sure exactly whats a healthy digestion time but for the flakes my fish tend to poop within an hour of eating those. Even my floater smile.gif With pellets, pre soaked or not it can take ages. In excess of 10 hours for my SBD fish: which to me doesnt really sound too healthy.
For peas its around the 5 hour mark, though he isnt given those any more as he cant tolerate them.

My other goldie somehow managed to get hold of an algae tablet, far too large for him and I think he was pooping constantly for about 24 hours!

I think temperature plays a big role too. Higher temperatures speeding everything up a bit.

Temperature plays a massive role. You can't feed them if it's too cold. I'm not sure what the official limit is but it's on here somewhere. I think feeding them when it's too cold causes constipation and other stuff, and feeding them when it's too hot does the opposite I suppose
