So my new plakat started showing signs of ich about 2 days after I got it settled... I believe it's due to an eye injury after getting stuck on the filter. I have had the tank between 85-87deg., I salted the water, and have kept a blanket over the tank to keep it dark. I didn't notice much, if any 'salting' last night... so I think it's going away, but my betta has got some discoloration under him. It started out like a dull grey under it's gills (throat?) and now it has 2 greyish stripes down it's belly. It's kinda sitting to the bottom now and not eating either. Is there anything else I can do for this guy other than continue treatment for the next 3-4 days?

Sorry to hear your betta isn't well.
I know very little about bettas, however I do know that they don't do well in salt.
I am going to move your topic to the tropical section where experts there can help you better.

Thank you. I just fed the betta and looked at him in sunlight... a little more whitespots left than I had thought... but he looks fairly lively today and happily ate the hikari pellets I bought him (guess he didn't like the 'betta banquet') I forgot to mention that I am using Melafix in the 2gal tank as well. It definitely helped his eye (except for some discoloration... which is in his healthy eye as well) just hoping this ich will go away. P.S. I gradually added 2tsp. of aquarium salt over a 24hr. period... and he showed no different reaction to it. I am just going by what I have read on other boards... I used melafix because I had it on hand.

My black plakat Voodoo is doing much better than when I saw him this morning... he is much more active and his fins are fanned out. His coloration is almost back to normal (amazing how much he changed from this morning) and the majority of the ich spots are gone. I am going to continue treatment for the week, hopefully he pulls through.
