Okay here's the problem... I have a tank that had the support bracket broken, I have one that I made, and it works, but I'd like one that looks a bit better.

From the resources I can find online, there are two options for making one that will still allow me to use standard hoods (which is the goal). I can either buy new trim for the top of the tank, which doesn't appear to be an option, since I can't find anybody to sell me trim that is the right size. Or I can build a brace out of glass and use aquarium sealant to secure it in place.

Does anybody know about how much a piece of 1/4 inch glass about 11 x 3 1/2 inches would be? Would they cut it for me at the glass shop?

How difficult is it to properly affix it to the glass and underside of the trim?

What is the proper method for doing so? (clean the area where the aquarium sealant will come in contact, assuming there is prep directions on the sealant? and then put a bead of sealant on the ends of the support brace, place it, clamp it, seal around the edges, let cure... how long do you let it cure?)

How long would I need to be rubbermaiding my fish for, while I was doing this?

Does anybody have any other ideas for building a brace cheaply?

Hi, is this the centre brace thats missing? if you ask nicely at the glass shop , give them the size and ask for arris edge work, should be like 5 to 10 $ max. Aquarium grade silicone done the way you said, about 24 hours, ps it stinks. Good luck Steve
