I have 4 shubunkins, 3 fancies and a pearlscale in a tank. Would any of them fight with a betta in it. or would it fight with the goldfish?

I kept a betta with some goldfish once, and it was okay for a while. Then one day it completely disembowled my moore.
I wouldn't recommend trying it out.

I had two goldies, one four inches and one six or so, in a tank. I added a male betta, thinking.. it was over twenty gallons, they all had more than enough room.
Two weeks later, the betta was at the surface, his throat torn out. His fins weren't even pecked at -- just the throat, a single bite.
My goldfish were swimming around, unconcerned as could be.. It was then I knew.. I had trained assassinfish.

Depending on ages/size of fish,it does work at times, but let me tell you that it's only a temporary thing. At some point it always turns out to be a bad idea in the long run.

YIKES!!! SOME MEAN FISH THERE..TEARING OUT THE THROAT:(
sad sad sad..lol
anyhow i just thought one more person to tell you wouldnt hurt:P
i heard plenty of times bad idea for betta and goldfish mix...matter of face isnt it true bettas are meant to be alone.i mean no other kind of fish?
its what i heard anyways.bettas are beautiful...but have always been to sensitive for my liking..i like strong easy going fish....
well at least now you know.if you happen to have a betta i wouldnt put it in a bowl either..i know thats what the stores have them in...and they prolly wont die but you could emagins how boring and depressing it could be to be in such a small space...maybe a 5 gallon for a fish would do better at least.
anyhow...goodluck with your fishies

I've had bettas do well with other fish, but only with tropicals who look NOTHING LIKE A MALE/FEMALE BETTA! And you have to have a nice cave-like structure the betta can call its own.
Besides, goldfish and bettas have different care requirements, so it can be very stressful if they are forced to live differently.

Bettas are TROPICAL! They do best at temperatures from 76 - 80F. This temperature range is too warm for goldfish. All my bettas are housed in individual tanks. My 3 fancies are housed by themselves.

I keep my GF at 76 - 78F and they do fine

I have seen plenty of people and stores keep a betta in a tropical tank, but they always seem to be in more aggressive or shorter finned community, being either cichlids and gouramis or tetras, barbs, etc. Most of these bettas will have battered fins and spend most of there time hiding though.

How large was your tank?
How long did this work out?
Do you still keep a betta with your goldfish?
Was there EVER any damage to your betta OR goldfish during this period?
Did you have any particular decorations (i.e. caves) that facilitated a peaceful environment between your betta and your goldfish?

I know this is an 'old' post, but I've been gone for a while and am just now seeing it and thought I'd add my half penny's worth.
I kept a Betta with my GF for almost 5 years and they got along fabulously. Mostly, I believe, because of temperament. Neither the Betta nor the GF were aggressive in nature at all. I swear, sometimes I think my Betta thought he WAS a goldfish.
I do have a couple of aggressive goldies now, though, so I would never attempt it again.
Also, even though I had 'good luck' with keeping my Betta in with my GF, he did pass away a short while back and I believe the reason (other than possibly age) was the salt I had in the tank. Due to some symptoms my GF were experiencing, I had a .3% solution going on and I really think that was too much for him.
So, because goldies like and sometimes need salt and because temperament is such a key factor, I wouldn't recommend keeping the two together. I won't say you can't try it if you really, really want to, but keep an eye on them and be prepared to change the arrangement asap if need be.

I've kept Bettas in with my goldfish before and there weren't any problems at all.
