sad.gif 2 of 4 tanks have ammonia problems again...Yesterday I was barely at .5 and this afternoon it was 3.0! 3 water huge water changes for each tank still have it sitting around .5-1.0 ish. I use prime with each water change and my tap water tests zero ammonia...

What the heck am I doing wrong? cry3.gif I've been changing my water in the very least twice a day...Now 3 times and that still doesn't seem to be enough...*sigh* The kit I tested the water with was bought yesterday....

How many fish in each of the 2 tanks?

How many gallons are the tanks?

How big are the fish?

How much are you feeding?

Are these new tanks or established ones?

Sorry for all the questions but just trying to get a feel for what's going on . . . unsure.gif

Everyone is spaced accordingly I think the culprit was mucked up filters since giving all of the filters a rinse with tank water my ammonia has been cut about 40%.

I had 8 fry and just inherited 4 more today all are either a little bigger then an inch or smaller.

My larger guys 4-5 inches thankfully are in ammonia free water...

I feed the big guys twice a day and the fry 3 times daily...

They are all comets/commons so with the larger one's 20 gallons per fish and the fry are all in smaller tanks but I'm keeping up with the water changes so I hope all will be cycled soon. My cycle was destroyed by a helpful but uneducated boyfriend who thought my filters looked dirty and scrubbed them out with very hot water. sad.gif

If you want to cut down on the ammonia, you could cut back on the feeding a bit, goldfish don't need to be fed more than once a day, it won't hurt them any (they just won't grow extremely fast), and then once you are cycled, you can bring up their feeding a little bit more.

Sounds like a plan and the new fry I rec'd this morning all seem constipated. So fasting and then pea's...
