I have been conditioning my male HMPK and my PK female ever since I got them. I was told the male was 5 1/2 months so I didn't want to wait to much longer to try to breed. The male did a nice job of ripping up my females find but now the are embracing. I don't even know how long they have been doing this, maybe 2 hours. He is having trouble embracing because he is a bit smaller than her but I have seen at least 2 out 5 good solid embraces with about 10 eggs each embrace.

I'm really hoping for some nice solid oranges.

This is the male that was partnered with the female(i think they were siblings) I bought but I picked out a marble male instead.

I hope I get babies that look like this male but with the nice clean fins like my HMPK male. The male is a platinum blue marble male with a red head. It would be nice to get some marbles like him but I really don't want solid blues. Does anyone have any idea on what I can expect from this spawn?

Male(Prince Moo Moo):
(yes, all 3 picus are the same male. Marble is a fun color. Top one is closer to what he looks like. He gained a bit more white spots now)

I removed the female from the spawn tank. The bubble nest is really thick. I'm having trouble viewing the nest because he made it under a red banana leaf. I could only see two eggs that where in some bubbles that where on the edge of the leaf. I believe there are a lot more though because both of them were being good parents, picking the eggs up when they fell.

Aw, thanks. You should get a betta, even if its just as a pet. There are many beautiful ones out there and it always feels great to rescue one from a pet store. You don't have to order fancy bettas from breeders. Bettas have personalities that are so unique. Mine always make me smile.

I've promised myself a betta but after rescuing 13 comets a month ago I'm still working on getting those guys situated.

After the holidays some lucky betta is going to have a 15 gallon tank all to himself...smile.gif

Thats a great plan! Sounds like you want to make sure he is nice and happy instead of just jumping into something. With a 15 gallon you could get a few females. I have a 20 gal long female tank and I love it. Some females are just as pretty or even prettier than males.

The male is doing something weird. He sticks his head up into the bubbles and it looks like he pulls some eggs out. I thought he was eating them but I think he is spitting them back out in new bubbles. My last male only touched the nest when things fells out. I hope he isn't eating them and then blowing a bubble to make me think he is spitting them out.

The male will frequently blow up new bubbles and sometimes stir up the eggs to they don't get fungus, so don't worry if he looks like eating the eggs biggrin.gif

Hmmm HMPK & PK....interesting combination. I'm really hoping u still get some babies with good ray branching.

Thats what I thought but I justed wanted to ask to make sure. I saw an egg fall out of the bubbles and I think I can see a good cluster of eggs but may just be light messing with the bubbles.

I've heard some people get HMPK from HMPK and PK crosses but most of the fry are just under HM.
