Maybe you were thinking of Chinese Algae Eater's? Or Oto's?? Chinese Algae Eater's are not actually Pleco's,but we don't recommend them sharing a tank with goldies. As they grow bigger, they tend to be a little cranky, and have been known to suck on a goldie or two.
What size tank are your fry in?If it's an adequate size tank ,you could look into something like Pygmy Cories, who like to shoal in groups. They are known for being a great clean up fish for fry tanks and will eat any leftover food from the babies.

The only thing is,is that no fish/animal will eat waste,so you'll still have to do water changes and clean the bottom with a gravel vac. I find it's much easier, just to keep the fry alone, but that's JMO.
