Hi i hope someone can help me, i bought three plants from my lfs coldwater section today that looked OK but no one there knew their names so i dont know what i've bought!! blink.gif

I know one is an anacharis as i have bought them before, but i dont know the other two.
Here are some pics:

This one is kind of 'grassy'

This one has leaves which look a bit like an anubias but not like any that i have as it doesnt have the large rhizome that they do. i thought maybe a different type of anubias or maybe it's amazon sword?? would that be ok in coldwater???

(it looks a bit like a bigger version of the plant at the top of this page)

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!

The grass one looks like vallis and the spade shaped leafed one is an amazon sword. I would google them to find out temperature range as Im sure they are tropical or at least sub tropical

ok thanks.

Grr i'm getting really annoyed with my lfs, they always have a big display of plants and they never have name labels on, no one knows what they are called or what temps/water they need, and i'm always told 'they're all fine for coldwater', and i just think how can they say that if they dont even know what kind of plant it is????

But i may the place blame with the shops but in the end i should know better than to buy something if i'm unsure.
It's just that it's the closest fish store to me (10 min drive away) and the other one (20min drive away, where i get my fish from) is good with fish but equally as awful with plants. I think it is probably best for me to buy plants online from now on!!!!!!

The bottom one could be anubias but not sure

i'm not sure either to be honest, i'm just going to give it a go and see if they live!! I'm going to put a bit of each plant in each of my tanks (trop, coldwater with high lighting, coldwater with low lighting) and see which thrives in which environment. Trial and Error!!

One more question-do you have any suggestions as to how i should plant them??? i have barebottom tanks as i dont like the way gravel traps waste, but could i plant them in pots with gravel/pebbles? or could i tie them to ornaments???

thanks!! smile.gif

Yup, vallis and amazon sword (the pic above the reply box is the same, yours is just bigger and longer). They are tropical I think, but I've kept both successfully with goldfish smile.gif

Edit: missed the other question.. They both need planting in the substrate, so if barebottom they will do fine in pots. Although the vallis sends out little shoots to make baby plants, so it would be best if the opening of the pot gives them room to do this.
