I need to go out of town on Friday and will return Sunday evening. The person I ususally have feed the fish is going to be away too! There is no one else.

What to do??? Do I get one of the cakes of food that sit on the bottom and release food slowly, or is it better to feed them on Friday, and again Sunday evening when I get home, skipping Saturday?

i have heard mixed reviews about the feeding bloacks you can buy, but since you will only be away fri-sun i dont think one is necessary anyway. Fish can go a while without food and that is not too long so long as you feed them just before you go on fri and as soon as your back on sun.

If you have plants in your tank or any algae then they will probably munch on that anyway, so they wont go hungry.

A good alternative to a weekend feeding block (which have been known to dangerously overfeed fish and pollute your water) is a few bunches of a small leaved plant like anacharis, it's cheap to buy and fish will (hopefully!) chomp on that while your gone! It's a lot better to give them something natural to eat than the feeding bloack which contain ash etc.

Just my opinion! Hope it helped smile.gif

I agree, fasting them on Sat shouldn't hurt them. GF can go 5-7 days without food.
Breeders often fast a fish for this many days prior to shipping. It cuts down on the waste in the transport bag.

You have nothing to worry about. Fish don't really need to eat every day. It works for both fish in the wild, and domesticated fish with vacationing owners. A few days off never hurts a thing. If you have live plants they wont even notice your absence. wink.gif I personally keep watersprite in my tanks which is easy for goldfish to munch on. If the lights are off they'll probably sleep through the whole ordeal.
