Am planing on treating my marine tank to a skimmer as my fish deserve a great xmas present to benefit them .
Whose brands are reliable and good quality as I want one that will last a long time.
Thanks for any help

Skimmers should be a part of the tank before fish are added arent they?

Fish only tanks don't necessarily need a skimmer, tanks with coral or inverts with fish should, since they don't like any kind of nitrates or and dibri in the tank.....
Personally Im a BackPak person

I have heard good things about the Backpacks, too. I think that's what we have on the 55. I don't have one on the nano as we are excellent about keeping up on our water changes.
I don't normally recommend going without, though, especially with corals.

I'm only fish just now but thinking of putting a snail in there but skimmer more important first.

A bak pak or an aqua C Remora are both good skimmers and would do the trick...
