wav.gif Does anyone have any opinions on Compact Fluorescent lighting systems? I am thinking of getting a JBJ Lighting Systems Compact Fluorescent for my bedroom tank. Its 65 watts 10,000k, has a double bulb (white and blue) in it and has 2 fans to keep it cool. I actually have it now and am thinking about keeping it. The workmanship seems to be really high quality. It is really nice and bright and my pinkish lionhead, Casper is really WHITE Wow! Its a little loud but I can live with it. Thecost $179.00 but I can go almost two years before a change of bulbs, which are about 40 dollars for the double. Any opinions? biggrin.gif

Without seeing one myself, I couldn't comment on the look of it, but the principle seems ok, and fan-cooling will make it much more reliable over a period of time. You'll get used to the noise after a while, and when the lights are out, the fan should stop?

Sounds good! Best of luck! wav.gif

I bought one about 2 months ago (36" 2 bulb 120 watts). They are very bright and strong. But I had problems with green algae water alot.

SO I just sold it, in return I went to homedepot and bought a 48" dual fluorescent electronic light. (Not bad for $18.00) Water is nice, plants are growing.. everything is just great.

I wouldnt say Compact Fluorescent lighting systems is bad, but it wasnt for me.
If you grow lots of plants, it should be pretty good. spit.gif

Fallenlordz, thanks for the input. I took the unit back today, I just couldn't justify the money, and I wasn't happy with the noise from the fan. I loved the brite light but I figured I'd encrease my alge problem. Or rather trade the brown for a whole lot of the green. Not good. I have no real plants so I think I'm going to take a trip to Home Depot and look around. This is about the 3rd time I've heard them mentioned concerning lighting. I think I'll try it. All I want is a lot of bright white light. +++++++++++ of course for as cheap as I can get it. wink.gif
