One tank seems for the first time to be ammonia free...My oldest of all three tanks I just tested a few minutes ago the ammonia was so high there wasn't even a color to match! Dark dark brown! I couldn't believe it this morning it was a little high so I did a 25% water change added Prime and Stability. Last night I added an extra sponges in all three tanks and I added a tufa stone to the tank with the really high ammonia. I did a test with vinegar no fizzing so I thought it was ok. Meanwhile you'd never know it by looking at my little guys.
The other tank in question who are usually my normal hardy guys were literally freaking out all day, darting all over to the point after I changed their water I added some salt turned out the light and covered the tank with a towel. They too had lava stone added to the tank as well as rainbow slate about a week ago.
Here's my question...
Did I somehow destroy my cycle by adding the extra sponge somehow? I did rub some of the gunk/bacteria on the new sponge and swished the old ones in tank water.
Could the stones be the culprit? I just did 2 massive water changes and the test kit is brand new I bought it last night.
I'm just confused you would think the oldest of the 3 tanks would be the one with the least amount of ammonia.
I'm ready to rip my hair out...At this point if I could buy freshwater tank friendly water for my fish I would no matter what the cost...
I just did another test since I've changed the water and I"m getting the same high readings???? *sigh* How? Why? I wish I knew what I did wrong....
