Anyone have any experience with this??

I've gotten two used tanks, one free, one I got on Ebay.

My hospital tank I got during an emergency when I just didnt have a dime to spare and a sick fish. The tank was filthy, but hey, filth cleans and the tank was free. biggrin.gif I went to Freecycle.com (which is VERY cool for finding and getting rid of stuff FREE), and i'd do it again in a heartbeat!

On Ebay, I found a 65 gallon hex, with a new, "unused" Eheim 2217, ornaments blah blah blah, for $112.00

Best $112 I ever spent. I tossed the ornaments and gravel and cleaned the tank (and dont let anyone ever tell you cleaning a 65 gallon hex is easy when you're only 5 foot 2 inches tall.... blink.gif ...) but the Eheim really WAS new, and I painted the NICE stand.

smile.gif The only experience I have had with used tanks is the 20 gal long tank that I spotted in some elderly gentleman's backyard, it was surrounded by several other old, dirty tanks, and he happened to be outside so I asked if he wanted to sell it. I always wanted a 20 long. He said yes, I could have it for $5.00. It was only a little water stained, from rain, it had never been filled with water as it still had the stickers on it.

What A Deal, I love this little tank. heartpump.gif

I was just given a 39 gallon tank, with a hood and working lights, heaters, brand new aquaclear filter, 2 bags of unopened gravel, aquarium salt, electric vacuum, all sorts of slate & stones, and a stand. The girl wanted to give me all of it for nothing but I made her take $40. It wasn't a lot to her but it meant the world to me.

That girl was an absolute godsend to me! And yes it was well worth it!!!

I have had 2 used tanks and have had no problems with them at all. Most of the time theyre a great deal without all the costs of new tanks.

OMG I LOVE FREECYCLE!! I got a nice 55gal that way. Unfortunatley, I couldn't find a (free) stand to accomodate it so I gave it to my pal to use for her snake.
I got a nice 35gal and stand from my neighbors (who were going to toss it out! Ack!). I cleaned it with water and a small amt. of vinegar, rinsed it a few times and it's FINE.
I think any new or used tank needs a good cleaning and leak inspection before anything...
Also, people try CRAIGSLIST.com for free goodies...

Check craigslist.com. I just picked up a 120 gallon tank last night for $100.00
