Hi, hope someone can help. My housemates and I are having a party this sat, and i was wondering if there is a good way to cover my pond in case drunk people get silly and put things in it. Not only will this upset me as it might harm my fish, i will also be seriously angry if it gets beer in it and i have to empty and re-fill the whole thing, as that took ages and was a lot of hard work.

I doubt this will happen, as i know most of the people who will be there are good friends and doing something silly like that wouldnt even cross their minds, but there's always a few people ur unsure of at a party, and i would just like to safeguard against morons who think it's funny to mess with peoples things.

So what do you think i could do? i was thinking plastic sheeting held down by rocks/bricks. do you think that would work?? Any other suggestions wld b great. thanks

If you do the plastic sheeting thing, you gotta remember to tell them there is a pond under it.. as if I were drunkenly wandering about a garden and came across a ground sheet.. I'd probably walk across it!
Something hard would probably be better, like a big hard piece of plastic or wood or something.

good point! although i did think that if it was something hard like plastic then they probably would try to walk over it, and it might break!!

hhmm yeah.. maybe a fence? ..or someone could then just lean over it.
What about something clear, so that they can see exactly what is under it, but if anything gets thrown in, it wont go in.

yeh maybe if i got some clear tarpaulin/plastic sheet, then ppl wld see that there's water, but leave it alone.

Hopefully since it's been so rainy the grass will be muddy and no one will go near the pond, but it is still a worry.

I will have a look for something good in town today. If worst comes to worst i will use an old bit of sheet and write on it in big letters 'DANGER' or something!!!!

What about a big piece of plywood?

Or a piece of lattice? Maybe a few potted plants infront of it? One of them being a cactus, maybe? Something they'll remember not to touch...

i think i'm going to go with clear plastic, my landlord is a builder so he has lots of tarpaulin that i can borrow
