Full Version: Gel Food - Substituting Gelatin?

Hi all,

I suppose this is a bit of an odd question, but I wanted to know if I could substitute the gelatin in gel food for agar-agar instead? Will this harm my fish, and has anyone else tried this before? The reason is that I went pescatarian a little while after making my first batch of gel food, and now that it has run out I face a dilemma! My fish will simply not eat commercial stuff now, and I would like to continue gel food (or something similar... agar-agar food) as I feel it is so much better for them than pellets or flakes....

Agar-agar is made of extracts from red algae or seaweed.. any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Bis

PS - I realised after posting this how ironic it is that I'm on a fish forum and a pescatarian! It is for health reaons (keeping the fish in the diet I mean), as I am slowly transitioning to the next step.
