Hello -
I got two apple snails a few months ago to go into two different betta bowls. I quickly learned that the snails made so much waste so quickly that I had to change the water ever other day. One of the bettas died so I decided to use one bowl for the two snails and the other just for the betta. I fed the snails based on how much was the produced. It seemed like then "went" for days so I would feed them and then wait until 3 or 4 days later when they stopped pooing and then I fed them again. I just got a link to a snail site today and read that I should be feeding the snails every day, so apparently I’ve been starving the pour guys. My question is how clean do they need the water? If I have them in a 1gal bowl do I need to be changing the water every other day since I will have to start feeding them every day now? Especially since the food itself makes the water pretty dirty, not to mention that feeding them every day they are going to be "going" a lot more than they already are. Or can snails handle a little bit dirtier water than fish? I just can't believe how much poo comes out of those little guys. They are becoming a handful, they are cute but I kinda wish I hadn’t gotten them. blink.gif

They are VERY messy!! Ive lost most of mine now but the 2 I have left are with my goldies now. When I vacuum the gravel, I get mostly snail poo!!
The best thing would probably be a larger tank with good filration to keep the water clean for you. Then you would only have to do partial water changes 1-2 times a week.
