All this time I thought I had two femalefish and one male. But I've realised now that all of them are female fish. ohmy.gif

After reading about egg impaction, I am really worried about my female fish. Will they have a problem with eggs since there is no male fish to help them lay eggs? What can I do now to avoid any conditions like egg impaction?

Currently one of my fish is a little fat in the tummy area but both sides are of the same size. It's about an year old and never have layed eggs before.

Appreciate if anyone could help...smile.gif

Female fish can and will release eggs with or without a male. It is "easier" to get them started when a male chases, but males can be very hard on the females, so an all female tank is a nice thing at times.

One way to encourage a fish to drop eggs is to wait until you see a storm coming in about 3-4 days. Change out at least 50% of your water each day, adding in fresh, cool water. The night before the storm, the last bit of water you add to the tank should be a jolt of "cold".

Do not pour the cold water on the fish. Do not pour the cold water into the filter. You just want the water temp in the tank to go down by 1 or 2 degrees (max) very quickly - within minutes. This sudden drop in water temp, along with the drop in air pressure from the gathering storm will often encourage a fish to drop her eggs at dawn the next day.

Thanks Daryl for the info. It's good to know that a female fish can lay eggs even without a male.
I'm kind of relieved smile.gif
