No matter what food I feed them (i only use sinking pellets - no flakes) they will eat a couple of the pellets as they fall, then watch the rest of the food sink to the bottom (sometimes it even hits them or falls right in front of their face). After all the food is on the bottom, they both dive to the bottom of the tank and go crazy sifting through the gravel in search of the fallen food. After about 5 minutes of this, they call of the search and go back to their normal activity. Its so funny to watch them do this - like they are looking at eachother as the food falls - then "ready? ok! GO!"

They sound really funny! And a lot like my fish! In one tank I turn off the filter to feed them so if the filter goes off for any other reason there is a split second of freezing and then its action station as they dive to the bottom to forage

yeah my fish do it all the time. they will even chaise each other in the process

My guys will do that too, usually while they are chewing the first mouthfull. However, my shubukin Fuzzy rarely seems to forage around the bottom. He'll make the mad grab for the first food in the water and then swim slowly around the tank, gulping up any bits of food that drift in front of him.

they seem to do this when the pellets i feed them aren't soaked. it takes them awhile to brake it down in their mouths so they'll eat like 2 pellets, and chew on them for awhile, and when theyre finished them, the other food is usually soft enough to go crazy on.

i usually soak my food - so I don't know if thats what they are doing.

I had one fish that insisted on eating everything all at once even if he mouth was full. Often she would get one pellet, go straight for the next one and the one she already had would fall out her mouth again. Very funny to watch. My other fish however is useless with food. I have to hand feed him or he can't find it. He's not too great at hand-feeding either and spends most of his time nibbling my fingers.
