Do breeding stars go away? Also can they form under the eyes?
Nenn
They appear on the gill-covers as little bumps, and from what I've seen on my fish, the bumps go away after a while. On my former fantail, his color actually paled where the bumps were, so he had little one spots after that. They formed a happy face! smile.gif

if it isnt on the gill-covers like under the eye's would you think that was ich? When you say it goes a way after a while does that mean after a few weeks or months?

goldfish don't form breeding stars under the eyes, only o the pectoral fins and the gill plates

My ryukin, Sterling has them (had them) all over his entire cheeks and gill plates (under the eyes and all - he had about 2 square inches of them on each side of his face) - as well as on the pectoral fins. When he is not in breeding mode (the water is cooler and he is "resting") the breeding starts subside and are barely visible.....

Oh no.... I thought that was ich because I found it all around the cheek and under the eyes. I've already set the water to .3% salt and the heater is set to 80 degrees F.

If it was ich, it would be all over his body and fins, which it sounds like it wasn't in your case.

You may want to SLOWLY turn down the heater if you want to help make his breeding stars subside.

yeah. it was never on the body or the fins. I was really worried it was ich. It was really starting to cover the head. each day i noticed there were more. When it was under the eyes I thought that was the red flag to start the treatment.
