Hi again. I intend to upgrade the lighting system on my 90 gallon aquarium. I intend to buy a triple tube strip and would like some advice on the best bulbs so I can order everything, together. I have heard good things about adding an actinic or blue light. What are the best brands of bulbs and the best bulbs if one wants to combine different types of light?

Thanks,
CometKeeper

Goldfish Man,

I think perhaps I don't know enough yet to ask the question more fully. Are there other uses for aquarium lights than promoting the health of fish and/or plants? My biggest concern is the health of my fish vs. how pretty the tank looks, if that helps. And the aquarium is not planted. So I guess what I am asking is what bulbs would be best for optimal health of my fish in an unplanted aquarium? And thank you for the response, thus far. I appreciate your expertise.

Kat,

Glad to meet another Comet lover. To me the only thing that approaches the beauty of a good Comet is a Gin Rin Buterfly Koi. I'm not sure what it is - the finnage, the streamlined appearance...

Hopefully we'll both get answers to our lighting questions. I am currently using a single, Sun-Glo tube and I know there has to be something more beneficial to my fish with the variety of bulbs available. So much to learn. I am also in the process of designing a raised garden pond on my patio or partially raised pond in my garden. A new stack of books to pour over.

Best of luck to you in your new endeavor.

I missed your response somehow and wow great minds do think alike. We have the exact same taste in fish, I was offered a Gin Rin the other day and sadly I am overcrowded as it is. I just inherited 4 more fry this morning! The Gin Rin's are stunners to me and I find it funny that like the comets, commons they are not considered quality fish or that what I read on a breeders site anyways...To me they look as if they are covered in sequins gliding through the water...Some time in the future when I am in a house I plan on staying in there will be a serious comet/common pond as well as a koi pond.

Best of luck to you as well..
