Hi everyone,

I'm a new member and a fairly new goldfish enthusiast. Koko's seems like a great place for people like me. biggrin.gif I thought I would share a few pictures of my pond and fish. This pond is about 1400 gallons with a bead filter and a uv light.

It is currently home to some comets, sarassa, shubukin and wakin.

Thanks for looking. smile.gif
Sonny
I also have a 300 gallon horse trough that I converted to a 'pond'.

Here are some of its inhabitants:

This is an old English blacksmith's trough. It is made of iron and it holds about 40 - 50 gallons.

It's currently home to three Ryukins:

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.

I have had my big pond for about five years but I have really become interested in more varieties of goldfish over the last year. So... more ponds!!! I attended my first goldfish show last weekend and it really inspired me. krazy.gif I may be in big trouble. blink.gif

Your ponds are gorgeous! I love them, they're so unique. Your fish are lovely too!
JenW
Fantastic! biggrin.gif Your ponds look fabulous and it looks like you have some wonderfully healthy and big goldies there. Can we see more of your 1400? It's just so beautiful biggrin.gif
tropicana
i love the way the ponds just blend into your garden, like they belong there
d_golem
Mate, u gotta show us the side-view profiles of all those ryukins and ranchus and orandas in your pond! yeah.gif
Black oranda
Absolutly beautiful =) Thanks for sharing sonny.
BeancurdTurtle
What a beautiful environment you created.

The container ponds are nice too. I'm a fan of container ponds.

And the fish are darned impressive. Nice job!

Welcome!

Thanks a bunch. thanxsn.gif

For me ponding is all about the fish. But I try to make the ponds fit into the garden too. I enjoy every minute of this hobby smile.gif (how else could I spend all the time I do taking care of the ###### things. rolleyes.gif )

d_golem, one of the disadvantages to fish in ponds is only seeing their tops. I need to figure out a way to look at them from the side, at least occassionally.

JenW here are a couple more shots of the bigger pond.

U could have a spare empty 5 or 10 gal tank (no need for filter) just for taking picture and diagnosis purposes. Then u can post more pics! biggrin.gif
JenW
*sigh* your pond is just heaven biggrin.gif If that was in my garden (other then patting myself on the back) I'd be out there every spare minute I had... it looks so tranqil and peaceful biggrin.gif

I'm sure at least he got a few fish from Tommy, seeing that his absolutely gorgeous ranchu in his indoor tank (which can be seen in THIS thread) is from Tommy smile.gif

Yep. I took a road trip up there a few months back and visited him personally. He sure does have a nice setup and some beautiful fish. exactly.gif
Trinket
Your sunken pond is heavenly heartpump.gif . It looks so quiet and peaceful there- reminds me of an old Roman bath, don't suppose you allow guests to dangle their feet in there though! We pondless folk get used to side views of our fish but with a pond like that or your container ponds I'd happily trade for top view fish watching smile.gif
How many fish in total?
Sonny
Hi Trinket -

No problem dangling your feet in the pond. Come on over!

In the big pond I've currently got about 14 fish ranging in size from five to twelve inches.
Debi0825
Very nice ponds. The link to my pond is below.

WOW ohmy.gif Your pond is absolutely STUNNING!!! I'm so jealous. I've met Tommy as well, nice guy, I got a couple fish from him a couple summers ago when he was at a show here in Illinois.
nichjake
Wow, your ponds are wonderful! Your fish look so good heartpump.gif
Ranchugirl
That are some gorgeous fish in those ponds, Jim! heartpump.gif And recycling other containers to fit the purpose is great - I wouldn't have done it any other way. Did you put liner in those metal ponds? I'd always worry that something goes back into the water that isn't supposed to be.

So, you went to the TX show then, hm? Did you take any pictures, or talked to the judge there? Show pictures are always welcome here... happydance.gif

OMG I love all your fish and your ponds. I really like the pond with the rancus and orandas and the like in it. If there is any possible way you can more pics of them please do!!

Hi Debi0825 -

Very nice pond you have there. And quite an assortment of fish. I see some nice looking Orandas I think. Do they stay outside during the Winter?

Well... when I bought the old iron blacksmith's trough I had no clue what made an ideal container. I put a filter on it and added some fish and they thrived! smile.gif Then I started reading and learning more about keeping goldfish. I learned that metal tanks are not always good and you should line them. So the horse trough is lined (with Gator Guard; a spray-on liner). But I have never gone back to line the blacksmith trough. Maybe I should but it seems to be a good home for the fish that have lived in there so far.

Yes, I had a great time talking to Terry Cusick and John Barcellona (the judges). Joan Berryman (the goldfish chairperson) was very nice too and I learned a lot about shows and how they work. And, I did take some not-so-good pictures while I was there. (The fish were great it's the pictures that are bad.) I'll post them this weekend.

Hi Erika,

Tommy is a really nice guy. I really appreciated the time I spent with him. He's generous with his knowledge and I learned a lot!

(It's fun meeting other 'goldfish people' in person.)

Hi Crush... That tank contains a few Ranchu, a sorta deformed calico Lionhead, an Oranda that I think is great and two Frogheads bingo.gif . I've always wanted Frogheads and they are everything I had hoped for!

I'm going to try to figure out a way to take better pictures of those fish. Maybe I'll buy a 10 gallon aquarium to use a little fish studio.

Hi nichjake,

Thanks! Love your dog picture in your signature!

(Besides fish I'm a real dog fan! krazy.gif )

Sonny, did you have your pond built? I'm starting to look seriously into building a pond, especially as I have the space for one. I would dearly love to have one similar to yours - especially the raised wall at the back because it looks so lovely. So I'm wondering if you've had it for long? Did you design it? <so many questions> biggrin.gif
Sonny
JenW -

The pond was designed by a local pond builder and built by a swimming pool company about five years ago. At the time I did not know anything about ponds so I'm very glad I got some expert help. The pond builder actually specializes in building koi ponds. It is made of gunite, slate and brick. There are two bottom drains, a skimmer and six tpr's.

I don't think you'll regret putting in a pond. Mine's been a real joy.

your ponds are beautiful. heartpump.gif expecially your large one. smile.gif

No, I wouldn't regret it at all biggrin.gif I know a guy who does ponds - he built my brother's pond and did a wonderful job, but charged like a wounded bull rolleyes.gif

I'm going to have to start saving my pennies so I can dream of owning one similar to yours biggrin.gif
